Learning disabilities

The National Reporting and Learning Service (NRLS) is working with the NHS in England and Wales to help improve safety for patients with learning disabilities.

An independent inquiry carried out in 2008 on access to healthcare for people with learning disabilities highlighted the need to improve safety and reduce risk for these patients.

The NRLS is working on a number of initiatives including developing specific resources for healthcare staff working with patients with learning disabilities, and working with an expert group to develop advice and best practice recommendations.
