General medicine

General medicine is the area of work that includes dermatology, neurology and cardiology, among others.

The National Reporting and Learning Service (NRLS) collates and analyses incidents received from medicine work areas and medical staff. Guidance is then issued to the NHS in England and Wales on how patient safety can be improved.

Medicine encompasses several specialties. Some NRLS projects are specialty-specific, such as the use of midazolam, and others cross-cut specialties, such as the safe use of anticoagulants.
