Emergency medicine

Emergency medicine is the first point of call for most patients wishing to access specialist services or have their emergency medical conditions dealt with adequately.

 

This field deals with the diagnosis and management of acute and urgent illness and injury.

 

Emergency medicine doctors mainly practice in emergency departments.

 

The National Reporting and Learning Service (NRLS) collates and analyses incidents received from emergency medicine work areas and staff. Guidance is then issued to the NHS in England and Wales on how patient safety can be improved.
