The Compendium of Patient Safety in Practice contains a review of selected advice, alerts and guidance from 2002 to 2008.
It demonstrates how the National Reporting and Learning Service (NRLS) has helped to achieve greater focus on patient safety at organisational level, together with the commitment of the NHS organisations that treat it as their top priority.
The compendium it also shows that implementing safety improvements can be complex, difficult and time-consuming.
The compendium focuses on 10 areas of safer practice in which the NRLS has provided advice and recommendations. The key principles of each are summarised, and the results of an evaluation exercise and a case study of actual experience are also provided.
